ShowRec Privacy Policy

What we record

• Screen / tab / window video you explicitly choose to record, via the official capture APIs (getDisplayMedia / tabCapture / desktop capturer).
• Microphone audio, only if you select a microphone.
• System audio, only if you enable it (desktop app).
• Webcam video, only if you enable the webcam bubble.
• On-screen annotations you draw during a recording (they are part of the video).

We never read or scrape the content of the web pages you visit. Recording uses browser/OS media APIs only, and starts only when you press record.

Account information

• Your email address (and name, if provided) when you sign in.
• A Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.
• A random local token so recordings made before sign-in can be attached to your account.

You can use ShowRec without an account; anonymous recordings remain accessible to anyone with the link.

Viewing analytics

For watch pages we record aggregate playback data (play counts, how far each session watched, completion). Viewer IP addresses are hashed, never stored in raw form, and are used only to estimate unique views.

How we use and store data

• Recordings and thumbnails are stored on object storage (Cloudflare R2 / S3-compatible) and served according to each video’s visibility (public, password-protected, or private).
• We use your data only to provide the recording, processing, hosting, AI documentation, and sharing features — not to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your data.
• Free-tier recordings are retained for a limited period and then deleted automatically.

Third-party processors

Depending on the features you use, data may be processed by:

• Cloudflare R2 — video storage and delivery.
• Deepgram (speech-to-text) and Anthropic (summaries / documentation) — only the audio/transcript of videos you choose to process with AI.
• Paddle — subscription billing (Paddle is the merchant of record and handles payment data; we never see your card details).

Each is used solely to deliver the corresponding feature.

Browser & app permissions

• tabCapture / offscreen — capture and record the screen/tab you select.
• activeTab / scripting — show annotation tools and the webcam bubble on the page you record, on demand.
• storage — keep your session token and unsaved recording chunks locally for crash recovery.
• Optional host access (<all_urls>) — requested only when you choose to annotate the current page.

Your rights & choices

You can delete any recording from your library at any time, which removes it from our storage. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data (including your account) at any time. To do so, email showrec.io@gmail.com.

Data retention & security

We retain recordings and account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service; free-tier recordings expire automatically. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access is restricted. See our Security Policy for details.

Children

ShowRec is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
